Abstract

Abstract: In The enchanted body of the streets Luiz Antonio Simas analyzes the street as a territory in dispute between a tendency to commercialize and discipline, and a street culture that insists on re-existing and reinventing itself despite all adversities. The book brings together 42 short texts, which speak of the countless contradictions that mark Brazil's streets and cities. With accessible, clear and captivating language, the author leads us to see the streets and their culture as a source of learning, and to realize, through the teachings of Afro-Brazilian religions, that the street is the place of vivacity.
