THE TRAJECTORY OF HERCÍLIA BATISTA HERCULANO: NARRATIVES ON THE POTENTIALITY OF BLACK WOMEN AND THE ATTEMPTS OF THEIR INVISIBILIZATION
Main Article Content
Abstract
This paper aims to analyse the trajectory of Hercília Batista Herculano - popular educator, public servant, dancer, craftswoman, conservator and restorer - through her memories and life experience. The main goal is to introduce her professional and cultural journey, highlighting her resistance in the face of the belittlement her work received at points. From a semi-structured interview, fragments were selected in relation to four concepts, namely: Sexism, Everyday Racism, Black Education Movement, and her biography. The challenges prospected from racism and sexism, recurring factors in her memories, did not immobilize the life trajectory of Hercília Herculano, which does not diminish the violent impact that these prejudices had in her life story.
