Abstract
Debates about health and the causes of slaves’ diseases have been constituted as an object of study for researchers from different fields of knowledge, revealing new perspectives on historicities much more complex than previously it was understood. In this sense, when come together evidences of the actions taken by the owners to caring for the sick slaves, it is possible to observe other dimensions of everyday enslaved population in coffee farms of the Vale do Paraíba fluminense. Thereby, from the analysis of the documentation submitted, with emphasis on the post-mortem inventories of Cantagalo slave-owners and narrative of the physician Reinhold Teuscher, it is discussed scenarios of health and disease that permeated the complex worlds of slavery.
