Abstract
In this article are analyzed the main aspects of the Florestan Fernandes's Sociology, regarding the issue of racial prejudice in Brazilian society. It seeks to indicate the historical dimension of racist representations, linking it to the specificities of modernity in Brazil. The aim is to highlight the contributions of this classic of sociology, with respect to the proposed affirmative action for blacks and the issue of overcoming racism as a condition for the consolidation of Brazilian democracy.
