RACIAL QUOTAS AND THE CHALLENGES FOR BLACKENING THE FACULTY OF BRAZILIAN UNIVERSITIES: AN ANALYSIS FROM THE CONTEXT OF UFBA
Main Article Content
Abstract
This article aims to understand how the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA) implemented racial quotas in public competitions for teaching in higher education, elucidating the challenges for a greater blackening of the institution's faculty. In methodological terms, we analyzed twelve edicts of public competitions for teaching at UFBA, between 2014 and 2021, and we conducted an interview with a public servant in the sector responsible for preparing the edicts. The results of this article point to the existence of gaps and boycotts that prevent more blacks from occupying teaching positions at UFBA. Therefore, movements that make UFBA and public universities respect the law of racial quotas in competitions are crucial, revealing a commitment on the part of universities to anti-racism and reparation to the Brazilian black population.
