DESERTIFICATION AND ENVIRONMENTAL IMPLICATIONS IN THE TRADITIONAL TERRITORIES OF BAHIA
Main Article Content
Abstract
The traditional territories located in the Area Susceptible to Desertification (DHS) are vulnerable to the effects of degradation, which reduce peoples' quality of life and deteriorate the economic, social, cultural and other bases. The objective of this study was to highlight the environmental implications of desertification for the indigenous and maroons territories of DSA of the Bahia State, in order to discuss the effects that threaten the maintenance of ecological balance, traditional territorial, social and cultural reproduction. We conducted a literature review on the main effects of the degradation of drylands and identified agricultural practices as the cause of desertification, with broad environmental repercussions that deteriorate the economic and social base and increase the factors of land abandonment and poverty.
