THE ORAL TRADITION OF BLESSING PRACTICES

Abstract
This article proposes to analyze the popular prayers of healing inserted in the context of the practices of benzeção, considering the oral tradition and the rite in the process of social interaction. To do so, we will go through other areas of knowledge that are linked to orality and that are present within the universe of benzeção, such as popular culture, popular religiosity, folk medicine, with the intention of understanding, established interpersonal relationships that keep the tradition still current and that make the benzedeira a social agent of its environment. Our focus will be on the origins of this practice, considering, above all, the Afro-descendant influence in the formation of an ethnic / social identity of the benzedeira.
