Abstract
This essay discusses the need for a re-reading of art history, from a racialized lens, that is, that considers the harmful effects of racism/coloniality in the delegitimization of non-Eurocentric artistic and historiographic perspectives. The objective is to reflect on how an Afro-decolonial aesthetics can shed light to the field of the arts surpasses colonial ties. Therefore the analysis of some contemporary works, with the aim of to understanding how their narrative procedures rework the memory of the violence historically addressed to black bodies and their modes of resistance, as well as for the constitution of a racialized visuality.
