Abstract
The media acts as a trainer and propagator of a permanent image of social actors through their journalistic, advertising and entertainment products. This research, linked to the Afro-Brazilian Studies Center (NEAB) of the Regional University of Blumenau, which works in teaching, research, extension and culture in the development of policies of ethnic-racial diversity, promoting equality and valuing populations of African origin , seeks to analyze which image in black is projected by Jornal de Santa Catarina in the period from 1998 to 2002, in its most diverse dimensions the issues related to the valorization of ethnic-racial diversity in Blumenau and region. Through Content Analysis (Bardin, 1997) the intention was to make quantitative mapping and qualitative analysis, taking into account texts, journalistic or not, that bring any reference to terms or subjects related to blackness, blacks, browns, blacks, slaves, Africans , considering broadly and comprehensively any and all issues that may be related to their religion, culture, history or presence in society. For this, the materials from the José Ferreira da Silva Historical Archive in Blumenau were consulted. It was noted that there are few reports that discuss the theme, although blacks are in a large majority of editions, however, in positions considered social stereotypes.
