Abstract

In this work, we analyze Lima Barreto's discursive thread, in excerpts from the chronicles 15 de Novembro and De Cascadura ao Garnier, from the discursive clashes between eugenics/ethnicity relating them to identity/alterity pairs, seeking to demonstrate the processes of discursive constructions of Blackness in Brazilian society. The theoretical and methodological contribution of this work is made from the perspective of the French Discourse Analysis studies (FOUCAULT, 2008, 2015; MAINGUENEAU, 1997, 2010, 2015), which unveils discursive fields and positions. In addition to these theoretical points, Lima Barreto, when transgressing the hegemonic discourses, takes us to a carnival worldview (BAKHTIN, 1999
