Abstract

This article presents our reflections on a journey that is a return to the narratives about Africa, to the theories, and to the memories built by Africans in the diaspora. We seek to share the different levels, either theoretical, conceptual, or methodological of the ethnographic experience in the cities of Accra and Elmina (Ghana) from August 5th to 18th, 2018. We also take into consideration the problems arising from the confrontation between mythical views of Africa, stereotypes about Africa and Africans, and the everyday life we experienced  while there. We hope to highlight how important these lessons are and how they are in full compliance with Unilab's social mission of contributing to the integration between Brazil and the African countries; as well as to contribute to the teaching of Afro-Brazilian’s and African societies’  history and culture.
