UM OFÍCIO DE FÉ E CORAGEM: A ATUAÇÃO DAS PARTEIRAS TRADICIONAIS NA VILA DE JOANA PERES, BAIÃO, PARÁ
Main Article Content
Abstract
Despite having being marginalized since the 19th century in Brazil, midwives play a fundamental role in traditional Amazonian communities. This article, based on bibliographical research and semi-structured interviews carried out in 2022 and 2023 in the quilombola community of Vila de Joana Peres, in Baião (PA), seeks to give visibility to the trajectories and contributions of two midwives to community life. The aim is to show that these women do much more than deliver babies, they perform a craft inspired by solidarity and based on refined traditional knowledge. In this way, they keep alive local cultures that are resistant to time and to the exclusionary and racist system responsible for disqualifying various ancestral practices relating to human health.
