Abstract
This article analyzes the implications of racial relations in the configuration of the metropolitan space of Belém do Pará, specifically in the peripheral neighborhoods of Sacramenta and Barreiro. Aiming to understand the implication of race in the process of social, spatial and economic development of the neighborhoods in question. As a methodological path, a bibliographic and documentary survey was carried out, collection and analysis of secondary data, fieldwork with application of questionnaires and photographic survey, production of maps, tables and graphs. It was found that racial aspects are striking in the urban space and in the subjects of Belém, placing black and brown people in underprivileged and separated positions in the metropolis, in terms of housing and work. Negative stigmas and socio-racial stereotypes are created and reinforced regarding the populations residing in Sacramenta and Barreiro even after the neighborhoods have been restructured and incorporated relevant services in the development of the metropolization of the space.
