Abstract

This article describes the authors' observations on how black intellectuals are generally treated by white intellectual peers in seminars, congresses, and other academic activities. Three academic events are used as examples: a) one in Rio de Janeiro, in 2014; b) one in São Paulo in 2015; and c) one in Brasilia in 2016. It seeks to demonstrate the whiteness of the thoughts and actions of white intellectuals who even publicly and explicitly support racial relations (including affirmative action policies for black students in higher public education). It is also pointed out the whitecentrism of studies, researches and analyzes (social, economic, political, cultural and educational, among others) produced in and for the Brazilian academy and society, especially with respect to race relations, which led the authors of the article to repeat the question of Spivak (2010): "Can the subaltern speak?".
