Abstract
The paper discusses the variety and complexity of the challenges to advancing the fight against racism in Brazil. Then discusses successes to celebrate: the increasing unraveling the myth of racial democracy, the importance of affirmative action and achievement of political and institutional spaces, and its limitations and prospects. And the paths followed by the Black Movement as a social movement: the level of its responsibility, precisely because of its breadth and the centrality of race in Brazil, in the context of struggles for social transformation.
