Abstract

In this article, we will discuss results of postdoctoral research that had as objective to problematize the challenges and possibilities of the teaching of African and Afro-Brazilian History and Culture in Brazil and of the inclusion of the local knowledge in Mozambique from 2003. In that year, both countries implemented educational public policies with intentionalities of insertion of diversity in school curricula. In Brazil, Law No. 10.639/2003 made it compulsory to teach African and Afro-Brazilian History and Culture. In Mozambique, one of the innovations of the Basic Education Curriculum (PCEB, 2003) was the introduction of the Local Curriculum (CL), which allocated 20% of teaching time to local knowledge in order to contribute to the incorporation of diversity in school curricula. We conclude that this Brazilian and Mozambican legal framework is stressing Eurocentric curricula and offering possibilities for the construction of intercultural curricular practices.
